The ten member churches of the Swiss Council of Churches SCC signed and adopted the European Ecumenical Charter on 23 January 2005 at an inter-confessional gathering at the collegiate church of Saint-Ursanne. The “Charta Oecumenica” was signed in Strasbourg in April 2001 by the Presidents of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE). The Charta Oecumenica outlines fundamental ecumenical responsibilities, from which follow a number of guidelines and commitments. It is designed to promote an ecumenical culture of dialogue and co-operation at all levels of church life, and to provide shared criteria to this end.
