An increasing number of children have been finding their way to twelve Protestant church congregations in Syria. Currently, 2000 children have sought and found community in the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL) and the Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE). They listen to biblical stories, play together, do arts and crafts, and receive meals there. This fulfills the grave need for a few hours of normality in these dark times. 130 young volunteers devote their time to the project. And the project heads approach children suffering from war trauma and can also request assistance from professional services.

Three of these congregations are in current crisis zones along the Turkish border and can scarcely cope with the flood of people. The church congregations are therefore in urgent need of your financial support.

We would like to ask you to make a contribution and/or call upon church congregations to dedicate collections to the suffering refugee children and young people in Syria.

We would appreciate it if you could share this appeal throughout your networks. We do not contact church congregations directly.

You can transfer contributions to the HEKS/EPER donation account 80-1115-1 with the memo “Project no. 672004”. You can also support needy children and young people in Syria through Project no. 672005 “Scholarships for children and young people at church schools”.

Program head, Tabea Stalder would be happy to answer your questions at: tabea.stalder@heks.ch. Further information can be found at heks.ch
