Migrant churches

New churches and new life situations

When people emigrate, they take their religion and faith along with them. Some join existing reli-gious communities in their new countries or form their own migrant churches.

Migrant churches as a challenge and opportunity

There are over 300 different churches in Switzerland that were founded by Christian migrants from Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

Migrant churches are both a challenge and an opportunity for the cantonal churches. While different ways of expressing and living the Christian faith may appear unfamiliar and language barriers can present obstacles, encounters between Swiss churches and migrant churches are an enrichment to all those involved.
