The World Council of Churches is a worldwide Christian inter-church organization founded in 1948 to work for the cause of ecumenism. It is a fellowship of 352 churches, denominations and church fellowships in more than 110 countries and territories throughout the world, representing over 500 million Christians, seeking unity, a common witness and Christian service. It has no head office as such, but its administrative center is located at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. Geneva was chosen because of its international and peacebuilding vocation and its numerous international organizations (UN, ILO etc.). The WCC is a unique space for its member churches: one in which they can reflect, speak, act, worship, and work together, challenge and support each other, and share and debate with one another.
