Federal President Alain Berset received the members of the Swiss Council of Religions SCR in Bern on 27 March. Present at the meeting were the President of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches, the President of the Federation of Islamic Umbrella Organizations in Switzerland, the President of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities, and the Bishop of the Christian Catholic Church of Switzerland. The agenda encompassed the current religious-political situation and the safeguarding of religious peace.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the rapprochement between the Council of Religions and the Federal Council over the last few years. The meetings, which until now have taken place approximately every 18 months, will now be held semi-annually. “Religious peace is a great good. Therefore, it is good if the highest leaders of religions speak openly and directly with the highest political leaders,” underscored Gottfried Locher, President of the Council of Religions.
